One of these two won the Walter Payton Man of The Year award.
Minutes prior to the kickoff of Super Bowl XLIII, Kurt Warner was named the Walter Payton Man of The Year. Per the NFL’s official site:
The prestigious Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award is unique among NFL honors. It is the only NFL award that recognizes a player for his community service activities as well as his excellence on the field.
This years finalists were Cardinals QB Kurt Warner, Minnesota C Matt Birk, and Philadelphia FS Brian Dawkins. Dawkins deserved the award, but Warner’s direct line to God got him the nod.
For Warner (and Dawkins), it’s too bad “Man of The Year” doesn’t equate to “Super Bowl Champion”.
